Red Auerbach a Great Person and Coach

Basketball will miss Red in so many ways. His Boston Celtic's were a pleasure to watch because they ran the Fast Break to perfection and revolutionized the NBA. He had great relationships with many players and coaches who all gained knowledge from him. I regret that Len Bias who Red loved never got to play a game for the Celtic's. Thanks Red for all that you have done for this great game that you loved.

Cookie Cutter Coaching

I am concerned about the lack of creativity in our game when it comes to coaching and teaching the game. I see people trying to play the same way every year with different types of players and not giving their team a chance to win. While the fundamentals never change, what your players are limited in what they can do changes. Give your team a chance to win that is what they deserve. Examples are playing a zone instead of man to man if your team can't guard. Shooting the 3 Ball if you have no size it is the game's great equalizer.

I loved the 71 and 73 New York Knicks

The Knicks teams of those seasons played game like it was supposed to be played. I only wish that our youth of today had seen the Knicks play. They played the right way. They cared about each other and it showed on the court with their amazing teamwork and passing. They defended and helped each other on Defense. I miss Basketball played like this and I believe this is what James Naismith dreamed on how the game should be played. I miss Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Dave Debusshere, Bill Bradley, Dick Barnett, Earl Monroe, Jerry Lucas, and yes even Phil Jackson who gained not only his philosophy from Tex Winter but also the Great Red Holzman. I like many were blessed by this style of Basketball.

Interested in College Practice reports

I have attended University of Nebraska Coaches Clinic. Doc Sadler does a nice job of teaching helping Man to Man Defense. I have also attended Concordia University of Nebraska. Coach Grant Schmidt is one of the best small college coaches in the country.

Vance Walberg wave of the Future

Coach Walberg is bringing an exciting brand of Basketball to Pepperdine they will be alot of fun to watch this year. His style of pressing on made or misses shots really up-tempos the game and his attacking offense is a system that alot teams are switching to such as Memphis University and Saint Anthonys who ran his offense last year. Pepperdine will play extremely hard this year and they will be the "Waves of the Future" in Basketball.

USA Basketball Development

I believe we have to get back to the basic's and start developing players in the 3rd grade and beyond. We have all tools here in the USA to make all players better. If I remember right we invented this great game. We need teach players how to dribble, pass, shoot, defend, and rebound. As Pete Carril once said "repetition is the mother of skill". I believe it is time that we all rolled up our sleeves and get to work and make our game better. We all possess the knowledge of the game but we have to work at it.
